Universal Technical Institute (UTI) is expanding its Manufacturer Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) program, becoming the first educational institution to offer Tesla’s START Collision Repair program.
Set to begin in the spring, the program will be available at UTI’s Long Beach campus, providing specialized training in Tesla vehicle repairs.
According to a joint press release from UTI and Tesla, the MSAT programs equip graduates with brand-specific technology and systems knowledge, preparing them for service and repair roles with leading global manufacturers.
“The specialized training prepares students for career opportunities with these manufacturers, potentially setting them apart from other entry-level technicians who do not have this level of training,” the release states.
Graduates of UTI’s Collision Repair and Refinish Technology program who meet Tesla’s program criteria and secure internships at Tesla’s OEM-owned facilities will be eligible for the four-month program. The Tesla-specific coursework builds on UTI’s traditional body and paint repair training and includes electrical work, panel removal and replacement, and recalibration.
Upon completing the program, graduates transition to full-time employment at one of Tesla’s internal collision repair centers.
“Our collaboration with Tesla is a significant milestone for UTI and underscores our technological capabilities and advancements,” said Tracy Lorenz, president of the UTI Division. “This partnership also serves as a testament to our commitment to innovation and ensuring that our programs remain relevant and impactful in today’s evolving landscape, as we prepare a workforce to safely and effectively repair the vehicles driving our future.”
UTI currently offers 27 MSAT programs, all focused on mechanical automotive training, in partnership with leading manufacturers, including:
Alfa Romeo
BMW
Buick

The addition of Tesla’s START Collision Repair program represents a significant step forward in specialized EV repair training, ensuring that future technicians are well-equipped to meet the demands of the evolving automotive industry.
