PPG Leaders Transform Boys & Girls Club in Florida, Celebrating 10 Years of Colorful Communities!

February 11, 2025

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.–PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project in collaboration with Heart of America to revitalize the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County William E. Slaughter Club and S. Robert Levine Campus in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Celebrating a Decade of Impact

Marking the 10-year anniversary of the Colorful Communities program, 100 of PPG’s global leaders dedicated time from their annual global leadership meeting to refresh key areas of the club. The team revitalized the facility’s computer room, recording studio, gymnasium, and teen center outdoor areas, using vibrant colors designed to enhance learning and engagement.

In addition to painting, volunteers assembled and donated 500 STEM activity kits and 40 bicycles for local club members. PPG also utilized its Traffic Solutions ENNIS-FLINT® DECOMARK® preformed thermoplastic product to install a hopscotch court and logo design outside the building.

A Place for Learning and Growth

“The club is a fantastic place where young people can come to learn, grow, and build a foundation for their futures,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “It’s the perfect location to start the 10-year celebration of the Colorful Communities program and showcase how we combine our employees’ passion with our innovative products.”

The club serves more than 200 members daily, offering after-school and summer programs focused on character development, education, career readiness, and life skills.

Partnership for Lasting Change

Chris Gentile, Co-CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, emphasized the significance of the project: “Through this vibrant program, PPG and Heart of America not only help shape futures with us, but they also empower the next generation of leaders, providing them with the support and opportunities needed to thrive.”

For this project, PPG collaborated with The Pittsburgh Paints Company and Heart of America, an education equity nonprofit dedicated to transforming learning spaces. Jill Hardy Heath, CEO of Heart of America, highlighted the importance of color in learning environments: “Color influences students’ mood, attention span, and memory retention. PPG understands this impact, making them an incredible partner in bringing education spaces to life.”

Extending the Commitment

Since launching the Colorful Communities program in 2015, PPG has combined the power of its products with employee volunteers to create brighter, more engaging spaces worldwide. The William E. Slaughter Club and S. Robert Levine Campus project is one of 10 flagship projects planned to mark the program’s 10th anniversary.

To extend this legacy, PPG announced a $15 million commitment for the next decade of Colorful Communitiesinitiatives. Additionally, PPG and the PPG Foundation will distribute $1 million in celebration grants to 100 previous and current Colorful Communities partners worldwide in 2025.
