Omaha Fire Department (OFD) crews battled a massive four-alarm fire early on Jan. 16 at Bumper and Auto of Omaha, located near 13th and Center streets in Nebraska.
Firefighters arrived just before midnight on Jan. 15 to find heavy smoke and flames pouring from the shop’s windows and doors, prompting an immediate working fire declaration, according to fire officials.
By 12:15 a.m., the fire was upgraded to a second alarm as crews struggled to contain the rapidly spreading flames. After about 40 minutes of battling the blaze, deteriorating conditions inside the building forced firefighters to retreat from the interior and roof. At 12:30 a.m., a third alarm was called as the fire breached the roof structure, which collapsed moments later after crews had safely exited.
A fourth and final alarm was issued at 1 a.m., bringing in additional resources. The fire was declared under control shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 16.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and officials confirmed the building was unoccupied at the time. However, damage is estimated at approximately $1.25 million.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
